PRINTED STRIPE OPTION

If you want to use printed stripes, buy ½ yard of 5 different striped fabrics and 1¾ yards of background fabric.

Substitute the striped fabrics for the strip sets and cut 1 convex piece from each of 4 of the stripes. See the quilt assembly diagram (below right).

From the background fabric, cut all the rectangles, squares, and strips in the cutting chart for the pieced-stripe quilt, except the 1½˝ strips.

TIP

In my Fins variation, the thin stripes run vertically in each row instead of in long horizontal lines as in the original pieced-strips quilt. That’s because I ordered the fabric thinking that the stripes ran from selvage to selvage. Instead, they were perpendicular to the selvage, so I ended up with vertical stripes.

Either direction works well, but if you want the same horizontal look of the pieced-stripe quilt, be sure the printed stripes run from selvage to selvage.
